Why is this a classic? James Mason is brilliant, as usual, and enough of the cast of Casablanca is on hand to give you hope; but, it feels like an also ran. The plot meanders and while some of the camera work is stunning, it mostly falls flat trying to create noir close ups. Other than Mason, it is hard to care about anyone or even what is going on.
